AB-109 parolee arrested for Sundial Bridge stabbing
REDDING, Calif. - An AB-109 parolee is back in jail after a stabbing at the Sundial Bridge in Redding. Michael Ruonavaara, 33, was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon.
It happened just after midnight under the north end of the bridge.
A group of people told police they had gathered near the bridge and were drinking. Witnesses said a man came out of the bushes holding a large knife.
Dennis Womack, 20 of Corning, tried to disarm the man after he became aggressive.
The suspect stabbed him in the arm.
K9 Carr was used to track down the suspect about 100 yards north of the bridge.
Ruonavaara was not bitten by the dog, and was arrested by Redding Police.
Womack was taken to a hospital to be treated for a four inch cut on his arm.
Police said Ruonavaara is on AB-109 parole. He was arrested and booked at the Shasta County Jail.
