Big rig overturns on Highway 101 leaving driver with major injuries

UKIAH, Calif. - A tractor-trailer was involved in a collision in Ukiah Friday where it overturned and crashed into a tree, leaving the driver with major injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Officials said around 7:50 a.m. on Dec. 1, a 2014 Peterbilt semi truck was traveling Highway 101 when for an unknown reason, the driver, 49-year-old Fred Burns of Lucerne, Calif. allowed it to leave the roadway. The big rig overturned before coming to a rest blocking the northbound lanes of the highway just north of Pieta Creek.

Burns was transported to the hospital with major injuries, according to officials. The cause of the collision is still under investigation, and drugs and oir alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors in this investigation, according to the CHP.
