PALERMO, Calif. - Two days after a body was discovered at a home in Palermo, Butte County Sheriff's investigators have released the victim's name and have ruled the death to be a homicide.

On Sunday evening investigators said 43 year-old Lewis Raymond Newton died from a gunshot wound.

The Sheriff's Office first received a report of a deceased man near a house at 7425 Gene Lane in Palermo on Friday at 5:30 p.m.

Several people who live in the area who declined to be identified, said the body was discovered under a tarp and that the homeowner where Newton was found was not home at the time.

Investigators said no further information regarding a motive is being released.
