CHICO, Calif. - KRCR News Channel 7's 2017 Stuff the Bus food drive is just over two weeks away and two Chico high schools are getting involved.

In an effort to gather as much food as possible, Chico High and Pleasant Valley High School are having a friendly competition.

Whichever school can collect the most non-perishable food items for the food drive wins.

So far, it's hard to say who will take the cake, but the students at both schools aren't losing sight of what the true purpose of this event is.

"I think that this is really about the people who need the cans and we shouldn't be really making it PV versus Chico, but we should kind of be coming together and being like, let's try to help," said Ty Polosky, a junior at Chico High School.

"It's important for me because there's a lot of people in Chico that are really just in need, especially in the winter when it's cold out and it can be hard to find food and stuff like that. So we're really just trying to help out those in need in our community," agreed Garrett Kemp, Pleasant Valley High School junior.

Friday, all community members are invited to pick which school they want to win and bring all of their food donations to either Chico or Pleasant Valley High from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Stuff the Bus is May 12 at the Downtown City Plaza in Chico.
