Chico named‘Tree City USA Community' for 30th year
REDDING, Calif. - The City of Chico was officially recertified as a 2013 Tree City USA recipient for the 30th year in a row.
The Tree City USA program is a national program dedicated to community forestry management around the country.
Communities achieve Tree City USA status by meeting four urban forestry management standards: maintaining a tree board or department, having a community of tree ordinance, spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry and celebrating arbor day.
With all these efforts, it's no surprise that the Butte County town is deemed The City of Trees.
The City of Chico will be working with citizens to celebrate National Arbor Day on April 25 this year.
Several events are already planned, including a tree planting at a children's playground to replace a large tree removed last year because of safety concerns.
