Driver dies in Mendocino County after crashing truck into tree
MENDOCINO COUNTY, Calif. - The driver of a Dodge pick-up truck died in a car crash, after the vehicle ran off the road and collided with a tree, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Officers said the name of the driver is being withheld at this time until family is notified, but they said she was a 64-year-old woman from Covelo.
According to the CHP, the truck was driving 65 mph southbound on Highway 101 in Mendocino County on Tuesday, when the vehicle failed to drive within the lanes on a curved part of the roadway. Officers said the truck crossed the asphalt shoulder and drove down the foliage-covered hillside before it crashed into a tree.
The vehicle came to rest off of the roadway and the passenger self-extricated, officers said. However, the driver was trapped in the badly-damaged vehicle and was found dead when officers arrived, according to the CHP.
