EUREKA,Calif. - On Thursday, Eureka educators along with students and faculty held a press conference at Eureka High School in support of Proposition 55. The California Extension of the Proposition 30 Income Tax Increase Initiative (Prop. 55) is a personal income tax increase for those who make more than $250,000 a year, to generate funding for education and healthcare. Supporters of Prop. 55 say that the bill prevents public schools and community colleges from losing up to $4 billion in funding. The purpose of today's event was to show voters how and why Prop. 55 would be beneficial to the community, in the hopes of earning their votes. The conference was held at the Eureka High School on 1915 J Street at 12:40 p.m., and was open to the public.
