Fire displaces Butte County family


CHICO, Calif. - A Chico couple awakened to find their home on fire early Monday morning.

The blaze broke out at about 4:00 a.m. at a house on the 900 block of Palmetto Avenue.

A woman woke up when her smoke alarm went off and found a fire burning inside a toy box in the living room.

The fire started near and open window and was spreading to a nearby entertainment center.

The woman woke up her boyfriend who tried to put out the fire with a hose until firefighters arrived.

The fire was contained to the living room but caused about $4,000 in damage to the structure and about $1,000 in damage to items in the home. Nobody was hurt in the incident.

The Chico Fire and Police Departments are investigating the cause of the blaze.
