'I just don't like thieves' says landscaper who tried to stop suspect

REDDING, Calif. - Redding Police are searching for a suspect who broke into a Rite Aid pharmacy Friday morning.

It happened around 6:45 a.m. at the Rite Aid at 6424 Westside Road in Redding.

Police said a landscaping crew saw a man break through the front window and enter the store.

The landscapers that were in the area work for Pelanconi Landscape, Inc. The owner of the landscaping company, Marc Pelanconi said he called 911 as soon as he saw the man break in.

Pelanconi said he didn't want to waste any time so he took action. He asked his six man crew to help him stack bags of potting soil in front of the broken window to block it and keep the man from coming out.

"Hopefully I was gonna trap him in there till police could get there, I was on the cell phone with 911 and they said they were on their way," said Pelanconi . I just don't like thieves we've all worked too hard to get to where we are at for someone to just walk in and take it. Regardless of when it is it really makes us angry cause were all working hard just to get by. Nobody has the right to come in and take it because they feel entitled to it."

When the suspect noticed the window was blocked, he escaped out the back door. Investigators will review surveillance video to determine exactly what was stolen and to get a description of the suspect.

If you have any information you are asked to contact Redding Police.
