Man arrested after allegedly breaking into convenience store to take beer
CALPELLA, Calif. - On Friday, August 18, around 11:20 p.m., deputies with the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office were called to a burglary in progress at a convenience store located in the 6100 block of North State Street in Calpella, according to the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies said upon arrival they found the entrance glass doors to the store had been shattered. Deputies did not find anyone inside the store, however, they learned some beer and other merchandise had been stolen from inside the business.
The business owner told deputies they had viewed the burglary via an online live feed video surveillance system and provided a description of the suspect. While deputies were processing the crime scene, a citizen reported an intoxicated man walking in the roadway about a quarter mile south of the store. Deputies said the citizen's description of the intoxicated subject matched the description of the burglary suspect.
Deputies located Manuel Gonzalez, 38, walking alongside the road near the intersection of North State Street and Agnes Lane. According to deputies, Gonzalez was very intoxicated and was taken into custody for public intoxication and they found the stolen merchandise on him. Deputies later viewed the surveillance video of the burglary and determined Gonzalez was the subject who entered and burglarized the convenience store.
