MCSO: Unidentified victim of homicide found in Covelo
COVELO, Calif. - A man, who according to authorities was the victim of a homicide, was found in Covelo Wednesday and has yet to be identified, according to the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office (MCSO). On Sept. 13 around 10:30 a.m. deputies received a call regarding a deceased person on Covelo Road in Covelo, according to MCSO. CAL FIRE and the Covelo Volunteer Fire responded to the scene and confirmed the person was deceased, officials said. Deputies said the man was "clearly the victim of a homicide," and he has yet to be identified. According to officials, the victim appeared to be Hispanic and between 25 and 35 years old. According to officials, deputies presume that where the body was dumped was not the scene of the original crime. An investigation revealed that the body was placed at the spot it was found during a very short period of time just prior to the reporting call. The MCSO said anyone who may have seen a vehicle or persons acting suspiciously anywhere on Highway 162 (Covelo Road), south of the town of Covelo to the Dos Rios area, or parked in any of the dirt pullouts along this route, between 9:45 a.m. and noon should contact the Mendocino County Sheriff's Communications Center at 707-463-4086 or the Sheriff's Tip Line at 707-234-2100. The sheriff's office would like to add the following statement: "There are current posts on some social media sites claiming a certain vehicle was seen and or that an arrest has been made in this case. This information is not accurate. The Sheriff's Office has not identified an involved vehicle and no arrests have been made in this case. The Sheriff's Office is requesting assistance from any citizen who might have information about this case."
