Northstate businesses honor Veterans by giving back

Several Northstate businesses are offering free food and services to Veterans on Veterans Day.

Applebee's: Veterans and active duty personnel can order a free entree. Cattlemen's: Cattlemen's is inviting all active, inactive, and retired military personnel to enjoy a complimentary 8 oz. Sirloin Steak dinner (beverages and gratuity not included). Chilis: Veterans, retirees, and active duty personnel can choose a free entree from a select menu. Chipotle: From 3 p.m. to close, veterans, active duty members, and military spouses can buy one small burrito, bowl, or salad and get one free. Chuck E Cheese: With a uniformed service I.D. or Common Access Card, current and former military personnel can get a free personal pizza. Famous Dave's: On Veterans Day, all military members can create a Two Meat BBQ Salute with proof of service. The special includes a choice of two meats-such as the Texas Beef Brisket, Barbecue Chicken, and Southside Rib Tips-in addition to cornbread and choice of side. HomeTown Buffet: Guests with proof of service can enjoy a free buffet and drinks. Olive Garden: Current and former service members can choose a free meal from a select menu. Valid for dine in only; proof of service required. Outback Steakhouse: The year, all current and former service members with I.D. can enjoy two steakhouse specials; a free Bloomin' Onion with a choice of beverage and 15% off the check for military personnel and their families from November 12-December 31. Red Robin: With military I.D., vets and active duty members can enjoy a Ted's Tavern Double Burger and Bottomless Fries. Wienerschnitzel: Vets can head over to get a free chili dog with fries and a 20-ounce drink. Valid military I.D. or uniform required. Denny's: Active, inactive, and retired personnel can build a free Grand Slam from 5 a.m. to 12 p.m. The breakfast includes a choice of four items, such as buttermilk pancakes, eggs, turkey bacon, sausage links, and English muffins. IHOP: Veterans and active duty members get a stack of Red, White, and Blue pancakes. Proof of service required. Home Depot: Home Depot is honoring veterans with these two specials; a free Build a Veteran's Day Jet Workshop for kids ages 5-12. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and includes a craft, certificate of achievement, workshop apron, and commemorative pin while supplies last and a 10% discount on purchases. Lowe's: All veterans and their family can receive 10% off their purchase. Sports Clips: At participating location, veterans and current service members can get a free hair cut with proof of service. Walgreens: Customers with Walgreens Balance Rewards cards and valid military I.D. can take 20% off eligible purchases. National Forests: Inviting visitors to enjoy a fee-free day at several of their recreation sites in honor of Veterans Day. Gateway Science Museum: Veterans and active military personnel and their families to receive free admission. Whiskeytown National Recreation Area: Whiskeytown will honor veterans by allowing free entrance to everyone. In addition, there will a 15% off sale on all items at the park store located inside the Whiskeytown Visitor Center. Free Oil Changes at Midas: Midas, located at 445 East Cypress in Redding, is going to give out free oil changes to Veterans. This is first come first serve but people are being brought in to help.
