Northstate U.S. congressmen react to fires, twin tunnels
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Two of the Northstate's U.S. congressmen, John Garamendi (D-3rd) and Doug LaMalfa (R-1st), commented by telephone Tuesday about news that Governor Jerry Brown's twin tunnels project received a boost, as well as the White House response to wildfires ravaging in California.
The Associated Press reported that the powerful Metropolitan Water District voted to pay its share of the $16 billion project to build two massive tunnels to pipe water from Northern California to Southern California cities.
Garamendi and LaMalfa see creating more reservoirs, such as the Sites Reservoir Project, as more critical. Hear Garamendi's response here and LaMalfa's response here.
Both congressmen also expressed concern for their constituents after seeing multiple fires break out in recent days, not only in the Northstate but across California.
