Pedestrian killed on Eureka Way identified
REDDING, Calif. - A man was hit and killed by a car on Eureka Way in Redding on Saturday night. The Shasta County Coroner's office has identified the man as 81-year-old Sherman Eugene Barrett.
Police got the call just before 6:00 p.m.
When they arrived, they learned the man and his dog were trying to cross Eureka Way in the area of Olive Avenue, even though there was no crosswalk.
Paramedics rushed to save the man, but it was too late. Officials with animal regulation were able to save the dog. Police had reported earlier in the night that the dog had died, but that information proved to be inaccurate.
The driver of the car was identified as Nathaniel Conner, 26, of Yreka. Neither alcohol nor drugs are believed to have been involved in his part of the collision.
