POLICE: Man found dead behind Eureka Church, 'appears to be a homicide'
EUREKA, Calif. - The Eureka Police Department (EPD) is investigating a suspicious death as a homicide.
According to the EPD, Charles "Chuckie" Levaugh, 56, died sometime between Monday at 11:35 p.m. and Tuesday at 12:34 a.m. Levaugh is a known transient in the area, according to investigators. He was found in an alley to the rear of the Eureka Church of the Nazarene on E Street.
"We are looking for anyone who knew Levaugh or of any significant events associated with him," The EPD said in a press release Tuesday morning. "We are also looking for anyone who heard a disturbance about that time of night."
The EPD also said anyone with a camera or surveillance system that might have captured a person or vehicle in the area during the time leading up to the event, or the one-hour time frame Levaugh is estimated to have died within, is encouraged to contact to contact Senior Detective Harpham with the EPD at 707-441-4305.
