Salvation Army encouraging Stuff the Bus donations
CHICO, Calif. - There is just one week left to donate to Stuff the Bus. On Friday, June 5, KRCR News Channel 7 will join the Salvation Army in loading up buses in Chico and Redding with food to deliver to families in need.
The donations go to help the Salvation Army, who officials say see an uptick of needy families over the summer months.
Salvation Army said this is due in part to children being out of school without school lunches to depend on.
To participate, drop off foods like canned goods, crackers, cereal, or other dry goods into a barrel at any of the participating businesses around town in Chico or Redding. Click here for a list of locations.
"The Salvation Army's mission is to serve the under-served," explained Lt. Arwyn Rodriguera. "What I love about giving food is it gives that dignity and it allows people who have more to give back and giving is important."
"It builds character. And so it's a huge thing. You're having character on both ends of the spectrum. You're having someone's needs met and you're having someone grow in character by supporting that need," Rodriguera said.
