Scam Alert: Imposters pose as law enforcement, demand money


REDDING, Calif. - Shasta County law enforcement is warning the public of a scam where the suspect is posing as a lieutenant with the Shasta County Sheriff's Office.

Redding Police said they received two phone calls for service regarding a phone scam.

Police said an investigation revealed victims received a phone call from someone posing as a lieutenant from the Shasta County Sheriff's Office.

The suspect told the victims they had a warrant for their arrest and demanded money in order for them to avoid arrest.

At least one victim reported providing the suspect with money.

Police said the suspect is in no way connected to the Sheriff's Office.

Redding Police are now working with the Sheriff's Office to identify the suspect in this case.
