Structure fire in Ukiah prompts road and school closures
UKIAH, Calif. - A structure fire in Ukiah caused roads and streets to close Thursday.
On August 31 at around 2 p.m., Ukiah police officers and the Ukiah Valley Fire Authority were called to the 500 block of Leslie Street after receiving a report of a structure fire, according to officials.
Officers said they found a fence fully engulfed in flames in the backyard of a triplex. The fire had burned the back side of two of the three units, and flames had made their way to the attic.
Officers quickly evacuated the triplex and a second nearby triplex while fire crews worked to put out the fire, according to authorities.
Officials made contact with personnel at River Oak Charter School, which was located just north of the triplex. Leslie Street was closed and officers helped maintain traffic control in the area as students were picked up from the nearby school.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and is under investigation.
