Teen girl falls from cliff, spends night along the river

REDDING, Calif. - A 15-year-old girl was rescued from the north side of the Sacramento River in Redding Tuesday morning.

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office and Redding Fire Department were called in after a fishing guide heard the girl screaming near the river.

"Very lucky girl to be spending that much time in the environment, last night, due to the temperature," said Sgt. Troy Clegg with the Shasta County Sheriff's Office.

Clegg said the teen was responsive and talking when she was loaded into an ambulance.

"To complicate things, the fall that she had ... very lucky to be here with that temperature and that coldness," explained Clegg.

Clegg says the cliffs in that area are steep and anywhere from 70 to 80 feet high.

She was taken by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center.
