UPD: Ukiah man arrested for trapping and assaulting his roommate
UKIAH, Calif. - A man was arrested Saturday after trapping his roommate inside an apartment, assaulting her and brandishing a gun in Ukiah, according to the Ukiah Police Department (UPD).
Authorities said on Saturday, August 19 at 4:09 p.m., officers were dispatched to an apartment on the 100 block of Observatory Avenue after receiving reports of a man brandishing a firearm. Police said the report included that the man would not allow a woman to leave his residence. UPD officers located the suspect as he was leaving the apartment, and he was detained, according to officials. Police said the man was identified as 26-year-old Andrew Mills out of Ukiah. Mills's 1-year-old child was also located uninjured, according to UPD. During the subsequent investigation, officers said they learned that Mills and the female victim were roommates, and prior to the police being called, both were inside their apartment arguing. Police said they learned that the argument became heated and that Mills physically assaulted the victim. Investigators said the victim tried to leave the apartment but Mills brandished a handgun. According to UPD, officers found a 9mm semi-automatic pistol and ammunition inside the residence. Mills was placed under arrest for criminal threats, false imprisonment and brandishing a firearm, according to UPD. He was booked into county jail.
