Firefighters help to Stuff the Bus and feed families in need

REDDING, Calif. - The red barrels for KRCR News Channel 7's annual summer food drive are now out and ready for any non-perishable donations to help hungry families in the Northstate.

Several locations are scattered around Shasta, Tehama and Butte Counties including all eight fire stations in Redding.

Justin Smith, Fire Engineer for the department said each station is a quick and easy way for people to donate when it's convenient for them. Some areas gets more donations than others, like Station 2 on the west side of town next to a Holiday Market.

"Just in our job we see some of the needier folks and some of the things that are kind of falling short for them, and so there is an investment for us to try to help out these members of the community that we live with and work with and we're part of it," said Smith.

Donations will be accepted through May 19. Smith said depending on weather conditions they may bring the red barrel inside, but each office is open for you to knock on the door and drop food for Stuff the Bus.

You can also swing by and drop off non-perishable food during KRCR News Channel 7's live event May 12 at Crown Motors in Redding and the Downtown City Plaza in Chico.
