Haven Humane offers discount for Stuff the Bus donations
REDDING, Calif. - Haven Humane Society is stepping up to help feed kids throughout the Northstate this summer.
For the first time, the organization is accepting donations at their adoption center for KRCR's Stuff the Bus food drive.
For every donation, they will also take $20 off the cost of adopting a dog or cat.
Haven Humane Society CEO Mark Storrey said they're made donations to the food drive in the past, but this year wanted to do more to help the community and make it a win-win for their animals.
"We want to encourage people to adopt so this is a good opportunity for both. So if they're looking to adopt and they can bring in some cans of food and help somebody out and get an animal for 20 less of the adoption fee, it just made since," said Storrey.
Adoption fees for dogs are normally $135 and $85 for cats. Storrey said if you're not in the market for either of those animals, they will give a discount towards their smaller pets like a bird of even a guinea pig.
KRCR's Stuff the Bus food drive is going on right now, to see all drop off locations likehere.
The big event takes place on May 20 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Crown Motors in Redding and from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Chico Mall.
All the food will then be donated to the Salvation Army to help feed kids in need during the summer, when traditional school lunches are no longer available.
