Chico Police searching for drive-by shooting suspect(s)


CHICO, Calif. - Chico Police are searching for suspect(s) involved in a drive-by shooting early Saturday morning.

Officials said that at around 3:14 a.m., the Chico Police Department received reports of gunshots heard in the area of W. Sacramento Ave. and Columbus Ave. Several Chico Police patrol officers arrived in the area within moments but were unable to locate a problem, and no one was seen in the area.

At about 3:28 a.m., the Chico Police Department received a report of a man, 25, being treated at a local hospital for what appeared to be a single gunshot wound to his upper leg area. Police said the injury was significant but deemed not life threatening. The victim's identity is being withheld at this time.

Investigators are attempting to identify the shooter(s) and a motive as the victim was unable to provide one. The victim said he was walking on W. Sacramento Ave. approaching N. Cedar Street when he was shot without reason or provocation from an unknown vehicle as it drove past him.

The victim ran to a home in the area and received a ride to the hospital for treatment.
