CSUC Basketball team takes off to Elite Eight Tournament

CHICO, Calif. - Sunday morning many supporters were up before the sun to wish the Chico State Basketball team good luck.

"It's very exciting, in fact, we have a whole group coming to our office to stream it, to watch it," said Carol Braziel, a big Chico State Basketball fan.

At 7:30 a.m., the Wildcats took off to Sioux Falls for their game against Lincoln Memorial on Wednesday.

The team made it to the Elite Eight in 2014, too, but a Wednesday win will put them in the final four for the first time in school history.

"For me personally, this is one of the most enjoyable groups that I've ever been able to coach. So to be able to spend another week with them is special for me," said Head Coach Gregg Clink. "We want to go out and play great, we want to go out and take advantage of our opportunity and make a run at a national championship."

For Senior Michael Bethea, this is the best way to finish his college career. "We're expecting to win of course," said Bethea. "I don't think anybody has played against a team like us, defensively, so we're looking to bring that energy, defensively first, but we're excited. We're ready to go."

Still, worst case scenario, Coach Clink and the Chico community said the guys have already won.

"There's such a connection with the kids and the fans, it's just kind of a rewarding experience," said Braziel.

If you would like to listen to the game, it will be broadcasted in the Chico area on AM-1290 KPAY with Mike Baca providing the calla beginning with the pregame show at 6:05. To listen online, click here.
