Man killed in hit-and-run crash in Oroville Saturday

OROVILLE, Calif. - An early morning hit-and-run accident leaves a bicyclist dead and law enforcement looking for an unknown driver.

Around 2:20 a.m. Saturday, an unidentified man, 65 of Oroville, was riding his bicycle on Olive Highway in Oroville when he was struck from behind by an unknown vehicle. The driver then left the scene, continuing eastbound on Highway 162.

The biker was ejected from his bicycle and sustained fatal injuries and pronounce dead at the scene by first responders. The bicyclist was not wearing a helmet.

Investigators do not know why the driver hit the biker since he or she left the scene after the collision.

Witnesses have described a full sized white or light-colored SUV, possibly a GM product similar to a Chevrolet Tahoe or Suburban, with a broken headlight driving erratically at a high rate of speed in the area.

Law enforcement is now asking anyone with information to call the Oroville Police Department at 530-538-2448.
