BUTTE VALLEY, Calif. - The Butte County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal shooting in Oroville Christmas night as a homicide.

According to officials, at approximately 8:00 p.m. on December 25, the Butte County Sheriff's Office received multiple 911 calls of "shots fired" near the Foothill Mobile Home Park in Oroville.

BCSO Deputies responded to the scene where they located a man with multiple gunshot wounds. Deputies claim he was lying in the street in front of a home, located inside the Foothill Mobile Home Park.

The victim was pronounced deceased on scene.

Due to what's said to be "suspicious" nature of the incident, the BCSO Investigations Unit responded and is actively investigating the shooting as a homicide.

KRCR's reporter on scene spoke with a neighbor who claimed to have heard 4-6 gunshots. The neighbor said he then saw an SUV drive away from the scene.

A spokesperson for the BCSO said they are working to get us more information. However, they said there is very limited information at this time.

The motive for the shooting is still under investigation but officials said based on evidence at the scene, it appears the victim may have known the shooter; however, a suspect has not been identified.
