A man was killed in Butte County after crashing his truck into a tree on Highway 99.

Chico Fire tweeted a photo of the Toyota pickup on its roof after the crash.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said the crash happened around 9:30 p.m. Sunday on Northbound Highway 99 south of the East 5th Avenue under crossing.

The CHP said the pickup was northbound when it went into the center media area and hit the guardrail, then went back across the northbound lanes and hit a tree.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The CHP said they don't yet know if drugs or alcohol played a factor.
