Missing group of Christmas tree hunters located and rescued


OROVILLE, Calif. - The Butte County Sheriff's Office and Search and Rescue teams located a missing group of Christmas tree hunters after they went missing Saturday evening.

At approximately 11 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, the Butte County Sheriff's Office received a report of a group of people who were searching for a Christmas tree in the Feather Falls area but had not returned home at their expected time.

Butte County Deputies and eight Search and Rescue ground units as well as two Search and Rescue K-9 units responded to the Feather Falls area.

Around 6 a.m., the Sheriff's helicopter joined the search effort and ultimately located the group of the missing group at 8:30 a.m.

The group had spent the night at a cabin in the town of Cascade, 12 miles north of Feather Falls. Everyone was safe and accounted for.

The Butte County Sheriff's Office would like to remind the public that while this is a busy time to head towards the mountains and search for a Christmas tree everyone should be prepared. They recommend bringing snow chains, packing plenty of food, water and extra warm clothes. Finally, always let someone know where you plan to go and when you plan to return.
