Oroville CHP asking for public's help in fatal hit-and-run investigation

The Oroville California Highway Patrol is asking for the public's help in tracking down a suspect in a fatal hit-and-run that took place early Saturday morning.

According to officials, CHP officers responded to a traffic collision on Riceton Highway, north of Afton Road, around 12:35 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found Richard Dwain Benish, 23, of Durham, deceased.

Investigators said that a preliminary investigation revealed that there was a vehicle involved that had left the crash prior to their arrival.

"Somebody knows what happened out there and that person needs to do the right thing and come forward with what they know," said Officer Ryan Lambert.

The California Highway Patrol, Oroville office is requesting any person who may have information regarding Benish's whereabouts, activities, or associates for the last 24 hours, or any information specifically regarding this incident is asked to call 530-332-1200 and ask for Officer Paul Vue.
