Paradise woman, friends escape unharmed after deadly Las Vegas shooting


PARADISE, Calif. - Lisa Taggart Awalt, a Paradise woman celebrating her birthday with girlfriends in Las Vegas, was returning to her hotel when a gunman opened fire on an outdoor country music concert that she and her friends attended.

59 people were killed and 527 were injured in the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.

Awalt's husband, Duane Awalt, was in their Paradise home when she called him during the shooting attack, having learned about the shooting before it was reported by any news organization.

Awalt and her friends reached The Luxor hotel unharmed, leaving a message on her Facebook page, saying " Everyone we r ok- thank you Jesus."
