Runners gather in Paradise to honor teen
PARADISE, Calif. - About a hundred runners and walkers gathered at Paradise High School on Saturday to memorialize a Paradise teenager killed last August.
Skyler Millner died after being struck and killed crossing the Skyway while on an evening run.
The Skyler Millner 5K Run/Walk raised money to erect a bench on the school's campus where he enjoyed reading.
An avid runner, proceeds will also go towards helping to fund the cross country team.
Some of Skyler's classmates helped to organize the event.
"He was such a kind-hearted person that we should do something for him," said Kayli Palade.
Another classmate, Brooklyn Graham, agreed.
"We really wanted to honor Skyler and do something to remember him at our school," she said. "We just don't want anybody to forget him, you know. It's sad that we have to go to high school without somebody."
Organizers hope this is the first annual 5K in Skyler's honor.
They also hope to sell leftover t-shirts on the Paradise High School campus to keep the fundraising going.
