76-year-old man arrested for murdering son
YREKA, Calif. —
A Siskiyou County man was arrested for the murder of his son after a shooting in the Klamath River area. Stanley Mortensen, 76, was arrested after the shooting Monday night. Siskiyou County authorities identified the victim as the suspect's son, Henry Mortensen, 40.
According to the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office, dispatch received a call from a man reporting that he was involved in a shooting in the 1000 block of Barkhouse Creek Road in Klamath River. The scene of the incident is about 30 miles west of Yreka.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies questioned the victim's father and he was arrested for murder.
Siskiyou County Sheriff Jon Lopey urged anyone with additional information to contact the 24-hour dispatch center at (530) 841-2900.
"This was a tragic incident and we still have a lot of work to do in this case," Lopey said. "Detectives are serving a search warrant today to gather additional facts and evidence. A forensic autopsy will be conducted this week."
