Local congressional forum hacked with porn

Congressional forum hacked with porn

An online candidates forum for the First Congressional District was cut short Thursday night after a hacker interrupted the debate with gay pornography.

The online debate was hosted by the group, Independent Like the North State. Moderator, Chris Verrill said it is unfortunate someone would hack their informational forum three weeks before voters go to the polls.

Online viewers and listeners on radio station KFOI heard opening statements from two of seven First Congressional candidates, David Peterson, from Grass Valley with the Democratic Party, and Lewis Elbinger, of the Green Party from Mt. Shasta. Once the question and answer segment began, a video feed clearly showing sexual acts between two men filled the screen for several seconds.

Verrill could be heard saying, "Looks like we got hacked again, we'll try to fix this." The feed was then shut down.

"We had some pranksters decide to go on and not respect 'Independent Like the North State,' the two candidates that were there or the democratic process or our community and that's disappointing. But the North State's a great community and we're not going to let a couple bad apples spoil the whole barrel," responded Verrill.

Around twelve people were watching at the time but the forum would have been shared on several social media outlets.

Verril also says they have no idea who the hackers are and will not pursue legal action on the matter.

A new forum has been scheduled for Sunday at 1:00 p.m. and will feature the same two candidates.
