The Anderson Police Department arrested a man after he allegedly assaulted a couple in their home with a baseball bat and later refused to surrender to police, Monday morning.

Police reported that around 4:25 a.m., Michael Shayne Terry, 45, of Anderson, forced entry through the front door of a home in the area of Redbud Lane and Jason Court.

Terry allegedly went into the homeowner's bedroom and confronted two victims. Police say he told the victims that he was going to kill them, before striking them with a baseball bat.

The victims suffered minor injuries.

Terry left the home and the area by the time police arrived.

Around 7 a.m., officers found Terry's vehicle at an apartment complex in the 1500 block of Spruce Street.

After confirming that he lived there, police said they attempted to contact Terry at his home, but he refused to speak.

Officials said they got a search warrant for the apartment and placed Anderson Heights Elementary School on lockdown before entering the home.

Officers breached the front door and began to make entry into the apartment. Once the door was open they reportedly found Terry standing behind the door attempting to keep the lock secured. Terry immediately surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident.

Terry was booked into the Shasta County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon, assault likely to cause great bodily injury, burglary, criminal threats, and battery domestic violence.
