Bus driver drives through flooded street
FERNDALE, Calif. - On Tuesday, a photo surfaced on social media of a Ferndale Unified School District bus driving through high flood water on Dillon Road in Ferndale.
According to Ferndale Unified School District Superintendent Jack Lakin, there were two or three children on the bus at the time.
Lakin said the bus driver believed he could make it through the water because a previous bus driver had done it and was okay. Lakin added the bus driver was very remorseful and executed bad judgment.
Lakin said at the point the bus driver realized the water was deeper than he originally thought, he had to continue driving through because he believed turning around would have been too dangerous. Lakin said the bus driver was able to navigate through the water and get out safely.
Lakin said the bus driver has been working for the district for three years but would not comment on whether or not disciplinary action would be taken.
