Update: Teen arrested for murder of grandfather


SHINGLETOWN, Calif. - UPDATE 10:45 p.m.:

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office says a 19-year-old man has been arrested for the murder of his grandfather and attempted murder of his grandmother.

Around 2:02 p.m. Wednesday, deputies with the Shasta County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a home on Westward Ho Road in Shingletown for a reported stabbing. Upon arrival they found 19-year-old Skyler Poland who lived at the home. Deputies also found a dead adult man, identified as Joseph Maddox, and an injured adult woman, identified as Judith Maddox. The pair were Skyler Poland's grandparents. Joseph Maddox was pronounced dead at the scene from undetermined injuries. Judith Maddox had an injury to her head that caused extensive bleeding. She was airlifted to Mercy hospital for treatment where she is in stable condition.

Skyler Poland was detained and interviewed by detectives with the Shasta County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit. He was ultimately arrested for the murder of Joseph Maddox and attempted murder of Judith Maddox. Details of Poland's statement to detectives will not be released.

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office and the California Highway Patrol helicopter is responding to a reported stabbing in Shingletown.

According to dispatch, the stabbing occurred on Westward Ho Road.
