Firefighters stop fire from spreading through Redding home
REDDING, Calif. - A garage was destroyed by fire in Redding Friday morning, but crews managed to keep it from spreading to the rest of the home.
The fire was reported around 1 a.m. in the 3500 block of Americana Way. Firefighters believe it started in the garage of a single-story home.
Everything inside the garage was destroyed, including two vehicles and a quad. A sedan in the driveway was also damaged.
There were two people inside the home, but no one was injured. Firefighters extinguished the fire within about 20 minutes. The couple was displaced because crews had to shut off power to the home.
The homeowner had worked with the City of Redding for 30 years and retired five years ago. He was a fleet mechanic.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
