Investigation into alleged murder-suicide ongoing
BELLA VISTA, Calif. —
According to Shasta County Sheriff's Office, the investigation into two men and two women that were found dead in a house fire in Bella Vista is still ongoing, but police suspect it to be a murder-suicide.
CAL FIRE was dispatched to a structure fire in the 11000 block of Bella Vista Court, in Bella Vista on Sunday at approximately 5:00 p.m.
Shasta County Sherriff Sergeant Brian Jackson, who is leading the investigation, could not confirm how the individuals died until an autopsy is conducted.
"Generally on scenes, especially involving fire, sometimes wounds are not obvious so that's why we have [the] autopsy to determine the count for all wounds and whether the gunshots or any other manner. So generally we wait for autopsy before we're able to confirm wounds or how many," said Sergeant Jackson.
Sergeant Jackson did confirm there was a small caliber handgun found in the living room area. He said they are turning that over to the Department of Justice for further investigation and would not give out any other information including the individual's identities.
Sergeant Jackson noted they are done with the investigation inside the home itself.
"No, we're no longer at the house. The house has been released back to next of kin. We were out there till approximately 5 p.m. yesterday with CAL FIRE and right now the family is going through and trying to salvage the property that's available to them and get their lives in order, given the circumstances," said Jackson.
CAL FIRE continues to conduct an investigation to determine the cause and origin of the fire and would not release any information on the cause of the fire.
Anyone with information about this is asked to contact the Shasta County Office Major Crimes Unit.
