K-9, CHP helicopter assist in capture of Cottonwood wanted suspect


COTTONWOOD, Calif. - Deputies with the Shasta County Sheriff's Office arrested a wanted suspect with active felony warrants in Cottonwood, Saturday afternoon.

According to officials, deputies were looking for Luis Javier Ayala, 36, who had four active felony arrest warrants and one misdemeanor arrest warrant. Ayala had also failed to appear for sentencing from several previous cases.

While in the area of Main Street and Third Street, deputies spotted Ayala who attempted to run away towards Brush Street.

Officials reported that deputies set up a perimeter in the area and believed Ayala was possibly in the backyard of a residence on Brush Street near Third Street.

Several deputies were in the area along with officers from the Anderson Police Department. The CHP helicopter was also assisting along with K-9 Blitz.

Ayala was ultimately located and apprehended by K-9 Blitz in the backyard of a residence on Brush Street. Ayala was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released.

Ayala was booked into the Shasta County Jail for his active warrants and resisting arrest.
