Man Accused of Murdering His Brother with a Dumbbell Makes First Court Appearance
REDDING, Calif. - The man accused of beating his brother to death with a dumbbell made his first court appearance in a Shasta County courtroom Friday afternoon.
50-year-old Stephen Carver was formally charged with murder, but he did not enter a plea. That is expected to happen next week after the public defender's office assigns him an attorney. He seemed calm in the courtroom, speaking clearly and in a polite manner to the judge.
Investigators say he confessed to repeatedly hitting his brother with a dumbbell after an argument on Friday, August 10th.
55-year-old Gregory Carver was found dead inside his Churn Creek Road apartment around 8 p.m. Monday night.
Stephen was on the run for about 24 hours until police arrested him Tuesday afternoon.
We don't know what the motive was behind the murder. Neighbors have told us the brothers have been arguing a lot lately, but they were still shocked it turned so violent.
