Man arrested after having sexual relations with 12-year-old girl
REDDING, Calif. - A Redding man was arrested Tuesday after it was discovered that he was having sexual relations with a 12-year-old girl.
On September 9, around 3:04 a.m., the Shasta County Sheriff's Office received a report of a runaway in the City of Shasta Lake. The runaway, who will be referred to as the victim, was a 12-year-old girl who was reported as leaving her home sometime during the night. The victim was later found at her home by her mother.
The victim's mother recontacted deputies later in the morning after discovering suspicious messages on the victim's cell phone that indicated she was possibly having a sexual relationship with a 32-year-old man, identified as Kao Ching Saetern.
Monday, detectives with the Shasta County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit began conducting follow up to determine the nature of the victim's relationship. Detectives conducted follow-up interviews and examined the victim's cell phone. Detective learned that the victim was having a sexual relationship with Saetern that included intercourse and other sexual acts.
Tuesday, detectives were preparing to contact Saetern when they were notified by the victim's mother that the victim had run away again while on Lake Blvd. in Redding. The victim was quickly found by her mother on Lake Blvd. without incident.
At approximately 3:27 p.m., detectives arrived at Saetern's home, located on Deodar Way off Keswick Dam Road near Lake Blvd. Saetern was found on the property hiding in the backyard behind a trailer after officials said it appeared he had ran out his bedroom window upon their arrival.
Saetern is on probation for battery on a non-cohabitating spouse. Saetern was booked into the Shasta County Jail on his warrant as well as fresh charges from this investigation which included lewd acts with a child under 14 (5 counts), oral copulation of a child under 14 (2 counts), and penetration of child under 14 (2 counts).
Saetern is being held on a $702,500 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday.
