Redding purse snatcher, attempted carjacker sentenced to nine years in state prison

Casey Stout, the man who went on a crime spree in downtown Redding in early April, including being caught on camera attempting to steal a woman's purse, was sentenced to nine years in state prison Tuesday.

According to the Shasta County District Attorney's Office, Stout's charges included robbery, attempted auto theft, elder abuse, resisting arrest, and burglary. Stout also admitted to a prior strike and violent offense.

Police said on April 4, 2018, in addition to the attempted purse theft, Stout threw a rock into the window of a parked car in the 1600 block of Pine Street before attempted to carjack an 83-year-old man.
