A Redding man was arrested on Tuesday after he allegedly tried to break into a home using a flower pot.

According to the Redding Police Department, Mitch Parenzin, 42, reported that someone was trying to break into his home shortly before 11 a.m.

Parenzin immediately called 911 and watched the suspect pick up a flower pot and break a side window. Parenzin says he told the suspect he was calling 911, which caused the man to run from the property.

Officers said they responded to the area and found Salvatore Bonfiglio, 26, of Redding about a block away.

Officials said that Bonfiglio admitted to breaking the window and trying to enter the home. Bonfiglio lived in the vicinity.

Bonfiglio was arrested for residential burglary and booked into the Shasta County Jail.
