Volunteers clean up trails and aim to keep the city safe
REDDING, Calif. - The Shasta Support Service group met at the Sundial Bridge Monday evening, cleaning up trash and checking for homeless camps and dangerous items left behind.
The community service organization was formed as a grassroots group dedicated to supporting the people of Shasta County.
Each Monday they plan to walk the Sundial Bridge and surrounding trails to pick up trash.
This week organizers said they cleared "a couple bags" of debris but they say in weeks past they have collected up to six full bags.
The group says they call law enforcement if they come across any homeless activity.
A dozen people usually join the Monday Safety Walk and organizers say they would love to have more volunteers.
