Tehama County DOE screens award winning documentary on marijuana
RED BLUFF, Calif. - The Tehama County Department of Education is trying to educate parents and their teens about the effects of Marijuana by screening the documentary "The Other Side of Cannabis."
The film is an award winner from the 2015 Sunset Film Festival and brought to the department's attention after a regional marijuana summit earlier this year.
The documentary talks with researchers, professionals and everyday people who were impacted by cannabis.
Tehama County Department of Education encouraged parents with kids in junior high through college to attend along with anyone from the community interested in learning more.
Event organizer Ulanda Hinkston with the Tehama County Drug Free Community Coalition said the screening is part of the county's Red Ribbon Week which organizers say fit perfectly.
"With the legalization of marijuana in California, the effects of marijuana on teens is a hot topic and so we thought it would be appropriate to show it during Red Ribbon Week when the focus is raising the awareness of the dangers of drug abuse," said Hinkston.
The film was followed by a question and answer session with local officials. The department is holding a second screening on November 9 at 6 p.m. at Corning High School.
