HCSO: New body scanner detects woman smuggling Xanax pills into jail
EUREKA, Calif. —
A woman was caught trying to smuggle a bag of Xanax pills into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on Tuesday after their new body scanner detected the drugs.
The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) said on Jan. 9, an Arcata officer brought Marie Remington, 26, into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility to be booked on felony charges. That officer had alerted deputies that Remington had possibly tried to conceal something while she was being arrested, deputies reported.
When Remington was first searched, authorities said they didn’t find the contraband. But when Remington was searched using the new scanner, deputies said it turned up 50, 2mg Xanax tablets in her underwear.
According to HCSO, Remington was booked into jail on several charges, including assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm, felony vandalism, smuggling a controlled substance into a correctional facility, assault, battery and possession of a controlled substance.
