Teenager killed after being hit by a car Saturday
EUREKA, Calif. - On Saturday night a teenager was hit and killed after allegedly running into the street and into the path of a car.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 60-year-old Eureka woman was driving her 2000 Honda CRV southbound on Walnut Drive around 11:30 p.m. The woman was traveling an estimated 40 mph when she struck a teenager who was on foot in the road.
Officials said that they are still investigating why the teen ran out into the direct path of the Honda.
The teenager reportedly hit the right front of the car and then a raised curb. The driver of the CRV stayed at the scene, called 911 and blocked the roadway to protect the teen until first responders arrived.
