Commercial Dungeness crabbing season delayed again for North Coast
NORTH COAST, Calif. - An additional 15-day delay for the upcoming commercial Dungeness crab season for Humboldt, Mendocino and Del Norte counties has been issued by the director of the California Dept. of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW).
According to the CDFW, the results of another round of pre-season quality testing, which was conducted on Dec. 5, showed that the Dungeness crabs are still not yet ready for harvesting.
The season for Humboldt, Mendocino and Del Norte counties is now scheduled to open on Dec. 31, 2017 at 12:01 a.m. unless quality remains low, the CDFW said.
If it is low, then there will be an additional delay, which will be until Jan. 15, 2018 and issued by the director of CDFW, officials said. And according to the CDFW, it is also the latest the season can be delayed because of quality testing.
