REDDING, Calif. - A late night RV fire killed a man in Redding Tuesday.

Redding Fire Department Battalion Chief Rob Pitt said they reported to a structure fire, which witnesses said was accompanied by the sound of an explosion, off Branstetter Lane.

Upon arrival, they found a fully-involved C-class RV next to a commercial building just before 11:30 p.m. A neighbor told fire crews there may be a person inside, which they later confirmed once they knocked down the flames.

Firefighters entered and found a 62-year-old man deceased. His identity hasn't been revealed by firefighters at this time. Investigators added they do not suspect foul play and the man was a known hoarder and had a history of medical problems as well as being a heavy smoker.

The cause of the fire is under investigation pending laboratory results and an autopsy is scheduled for next week.

The RV was next to a storage warehouse for Brown Plumbing. Battalion Chief Pitt said the man and the neighbor in the RV's may have served as security for the building, but that hasn't been confirmed.

The fire did not spread to the warehouse.
