BCSO: Suspicious death in Berry Creek ruled a homicide

The Butte County Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate a suspicious death in Berry Creek, but investigators have officially ruled it as a homicide.

On Jan. 4, deputies responded to a call regarding a death in the area of Black Bear Road around 3 p.m.

Due to evidence located at the scene, BCSO detectives have ruled the death a homicide. The victim has been identified as William Chrisman, 68, from Berry Creek.

Detectives reported that they have not identified a motive or suspect, and the relationship between the victim and the suspect(s) is unknown at this time; however, detectives do not believe this incident to be a random act of violence.
